Following its detailed response to the EU’s public consultation on a Review of EU copyright rules, the BCC has followed up with a high level letter to Commissioner Barnier, European Commissioner for Internal Market & Services. While recognising that copyright must keep pace with technological developments, the BCC’s letter emphasises the need for a strong copyright framework that supports and rewards creators and performers. The framework established under the Copyright Directive, 2001/29, provides a secure basis from which future policy can be developed and the BCC says that the Directive should not be re-opened.
