Once again hosted at the Reed Smith venue with its glorious views, this year the keynote speakers include two of the most important copyright policy chiefs in both the EU and USA, Maria Martin-Prat and Shira Perlmutter.
As Head of Copyright Unit in the Internal Market branch of the European Commission, Maria Martin-Prat is the copyright policy chief for the European Union. Her background includes several years in charge of copyright and other policy matters at IFPI, as well as a stint in European Parliament.
Shira Perlmutter has been at the forefront of copyright issues in the digital age since the 1990s. She is currently Chief Policy Officer and Director for International Affairs at the US Patent & Trademark Office, where she advises the Executive Branch of US Government on copyright matters. Her international career in copyright has included stints as IP strategy chief at Time Warner, positions at WIPO, IFPI, the US Copyright Office, the Administration of President Bill Clinton, and academia as a law professor.
The afternoon will be split up into two parallel tracks: Law and Policy, and Technology.
