At its meeting on the 14th March 2013, the British Copyright Council elected Trevor Cook as its Chairman. Trevor has a long association with the BCC. Maureen Duffy, the BCC’s President of Honour had this to say about his appointment

“Not only is Trevor a partner in the distinguished law firm of Bird and Bird but an author, in his own right, of many definitive works on both copyright and patent law, a contributor to ongoing publications on intellectual property, and with practical experience of the workings of the law, acting for one or other of the parties in a series of litigations, including references to the European Court of Justice for distinguished clients such as the Welcome Foundation. But above all he has been a great supporter of the BCC, hosting and acting as secretary to the Working Party on Copyright and Technology. We are therefore delighted and grateful that he is willing to extend his stewardship now to the whole BCC.”

The BCC is delighted that Trevor is taking over. He has the ideal background to help the BCC build on its reputation for legal and technical expertise.

The BCC is grateful to its past Chairman, Paul Mitchell who is stepping down after eight years in post and who has taken the BCC through many changes including incorporation and the widening of its membership. Again, Maureen Duffy had this to say:-

“When Paul Mitchell announced that, after 8 years selflessly chairing the BCC, he was resigning, we realised, with shock, how hard it would be to find an independent chair who would be as dedicated and generous with time and resources to replace him. So it is with great relief, gratitude and pleasure that we welcome Trevor Cook as the newly elected Chair of the BCC.”
